Johnson Got Early Support From Mom
Jack Johnson's mom always told him his band sounded great.

by Krista Desens

OAHU, HI  [Monday May.9.2005]  /RedBoxCode.com/ -- Some bands make music only their mothers might love -- even singer-songwriter Jack Johnson, who had a punk band called Limber Chicken when he was a teenager.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Johnson remembers his mother's unconditional support. "When I was about sixteen, me and my friends had a punk band, and we used to record on a little four-track," says the chilled-out Hawaiian. "I'd play the tapes for her -- just really loud punk -- and she'd always say, 'It sounds so good, honey! You guys are great!'"

Johnson adds, "We'd be screaming, and she'd say how nice our voices sounded."

Johnson's mother still supports her son's music. Says the "Sitting, Waiting, Wishing" singer, "Every time I borrow the car, I see that my mom always has one of my CDs in there. She's always studying the words, asking me what certain things mean."

Jack Johnson plays Tennessee's Bonnaroo Music Festival on June 11. He'll kick off a 7-week North American tour in August in support of his third album, "In Between Dreams."
